Kayla Garcia, M.E.d., RP (Qualifying)

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Kayla Garcia is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of Ottawa. She works with individuals 16 years of age and older. Kayla’s work at Levity Counselling is supervised by Elisa Makadi.

Having experienced her own therapy journey as a client, Kayla understands the courage it takes to seek help when feeling vulnerable or overwhelmed. Her approach guides clients through their difficulties with compassion, supporting the belief that everyone can make meaningful, lasting changes at a pace that suits them. Central to this is self-compassion: recognizing that on days when it feels like you’re barely holding on, being gentle with yourself is a part of building resilience.

In therapy sessions, Kayla creates a supportive environment where clients can reflect on their experiences without judgment. She mixes a focus on increasing self-awareness with what’s most important to each person, helping them align their actions with what they truly value. By exploring thoughts and feelings with curiosity, Kayla helps clients get in touch with their emotions and uncover underlying patterns. This fluid and collaborative approach helps clients make lasting changes and live more authentically, hopefully leading to a better understanding of themselves and increased overall well-being.

Human First, Therapist Second

As a proud mom of twin toddlers, my life is an adventure filled with everything from imaginative playtime to keeping up with their endless curiosity. Between managing their boundless energy and juggling all the other hats I wear, I’m always on the go. At the end of a long day, I find comfort in unwinding with a sweet treat and a classic TV show. I’ve never met a ‘Friends’ quote I didn’t love—could I be any more of a fan?

It’s important to me that I get some movement in as it helps keep my energy up, manage stress, and find a bit of balance. My workouts sometimes involve impromptu dance parties, chasing my kids around the house while pretending to be a dinosaur, or trying to squeeze in a quick 20-minute workout video with both of them crawling all over me. Flexibility is key in this season of my life, even though it’s a bit of a challenge since I’m more comfortable with a detailed plan than a spontaneous plot twist.
